CloudWatch Alarm Does Not Have Action Configured For Alarm State

Overview

This check assesses whether CloudWatch alarms have been configured with at least one action for the ALARM state. Failure of this control occurs when an alarm lacks an activated action for the ALARM state.

It is strongly recommend enabling alarm actions to receive automatic alerts when a monitored metric exceeds defined thresholds. Monitoring alarms are instrumental in detecting abnormal activities and promptly addressing security and operational issues. You can specify the actions an alarm should take upon entering OK, ALARM, or INSUFFICIENT_DATA states.

The most common type of alarm action involves notifying one or more users by sending messages to an Amazon Simple Notification Service (Amazon SNS) topic.
